As a leader in Kenya’s rapidly evolving e-mobility sector, Utu cars faced a pivotal challenge: to transition from a burgeoning enterprise into a structured, scalable brand that could command authority and trust. They approached HOK not just for a new design, but for a strategic partner who could develop a visual identity and brand messaging that would accurately reflect their vision and propel them forward. It was a challenging engagement that began with an in-depth exploration of their mission to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in the region. We focused on crafting a brand that would resonate emotionally with their audience and establish credibility in a competitive market, setting the stage for long-term growth.

The core of our solution was to create a powerful and memorable visual identity that told the story of Utu’s mission. The creative cornerstone was a bespoke logo wordmark that cleverly integrated the company’s purpose into its name. By reimagining the “T” in “Utu” as a dynamic electric bolt, we created a symbol that was both highly creative and strategically fitting. The logo retained its readability while subtly suggesting the power, innovation, and sustainability inherent in Utu’s business. This iconic mark, alongside a fresh color palette and typography, formed the basis of a comprehensive visual system that was then applied across a range of brand collaterals, ensuring a cohesive and professional presence that immediately differentiated Utu cars from their competition.

Building on the success of the foundational branding, Utu cars entrusted us with the visual identity for their flagship event, the Green Africa Expo 2023. The expo’s mission to engage a global audience in green solutions required a brand presence that was equally dynamic and professional. Leveraging our “Content Design” expertise, we developed a striking visual identity and a suite of print collaterals that captivated attendees and exhibitors alike. From vibrant event banners to engaging promotional materials, we ensured every element of the expo’s branding spoke to its international significance and inspiring purpose. Our work on the Green Africa Expo demonstrated HOK’s ability to not only build a brand from the ground up but also to extend its influence to large-scale initiatives, cementing our role as Utu’s comprehensive brand and growth partner.
